Drills

We watched Company D of the 49th Virginia Infantry practice drills at Ben Lomond House. They've got the big Manassas Bull Run 150th anniversary battle reenactment coming up in July. The drummer boy mustered into the group at Brentsville last month and was struggling with his new drum. He was paying close attention though so I'm sure he'll have it figured out by July.

Captain Lee's widow

This woman portrayed the widow of Captain William F. Lee who was severely wounded and died in the Pringle House, now known as the Ben Lomond House. The second picture shows how they used hay and blankets as beds for the wounded.

Ben Lomond Historic Site

We visited Ben Lomond House yesterday where the 49th Virginia Infantry, Company D, were part of a living history event recreating the field hospital where hundreds of soldiers were taken during the American Civil War.

Not happy with the squirrels

I always say the squirrels have to eat too so we've done nothing to stop them from eating the seeds, nuts, and fruit we put out for the birds. And how do they repay us? Well we came home earlier in the week and discovered that something was chewing holes in the Rubbermaid box we store the seed in. We have two small trash cans inside the box that we store sunflower and nyjer seed in but we hadn't gotten one yet for the nut/fruit mixture. I guess they could smell the food and proceeded to chew away. This first picture shows some of the holes they've made in the box.

We ran errands today and caught the squirrel below on top of the box when we pulled into the driveway.

And if you look carefully in the next picture, you'll see the end of his tail as he went inside the box.

My husband is at Home Depot now picking up chicken wire to attempt to block the hole.

Broken streak and unknown tree

Well my daily blogging streak that started in February 2010 is broken and it's not my fault. Blogger has been down since some time yesterday. I tried to log in late afternoon and discovered the problem. I checked until bedtime and first thing this morning and it was still down. So .... since it wasn't my fault, I'm not counting it and will post twice today. My son says it's cheating but too bad. It wasn't my fault!

This is a tree that we saw on the trails at Great Falls Park. I have no clue what kind it is but thought the bloom on it was interesting.

Eastern Tent Caterpillar

This caterpillar was funny. He was curious and would look up into the lens everytime I tried to take it's picture.
