First time visit by a fox

I looked out my back window this morning and spotted this fox in the back yard. I'm not happy about this because we have a bunny rabbit that we keep outside during the day. It acknowledged the feral cat that hangs out but then walked around to the front yard and headed down the street.

Manassas Eagle still here

The construction hasn't scared them away yet

Manassas Eagle habitat invasion

Thanks to social media I'd heard that construction was taking place on the land directly in front of the Manassas Eagle nest so I had to go see for myself. It's hard to see in this photo but the nest is in the tree with the branch off the right side. You can see the large pile of trees already taken down laying directly in front of the nest tree. The nest is located on park property so they won't take that tree down. Unfortunately it's right on the property line. Hopefully it won't be damaged during construction.

There used to be a line of tall trees to the right of the nest but you can see from this photo they're gone now -- probably some of the trees in the photo above. The eagles liked to perch in those trees. I have many photos of them doing just that.

And yes, there was an adult eagle in the nest when these photos were taken today.

Great Blue Heron in creek

I spotted this Great Blue Heron today while checking on the Manassas Eagles. It came flying in over our head and then landed in the creek. It took a minute to find it. Glad we looked.

Still waiting on the eaglet to show itself

I check every weekend. Lots of activity in the nest but no eaglet yet. I expect it'll show itself by the end of March.

Dinner time at the Manassas Eagle nest

We drove over to the Manassas Eagle nest this past Saturday. It was so cold that we decided to grab some food and sit in the truck while we watched the nest and ate our lunch. When we got there, all we saw was the top of a head sitting low in the nest. Nothing happened for about 15 minutes and then out of nowhere we spotted this Eagle flying in from the right. I didn't have time to get out of the truck and focus my camera on the action so I just took a picture from inside the truck. The quality isn't good but I was happy to see that I caught it with it's talons clutching dinner.

Blue skies and cold weather

It's 22 degrees outside today (feels like 11) so we grabbed some lunch and took a ride over to the eagle nest to bird watch while we ate. This is our view of the nest from the truck where we decided to stay today!

What do Eagles do after getting frisky?

Mom goes back to the nest and the egg

And Dad goes to a nearby tree to pick at it's beak

Manassas Eagle is nesting now

I've visited the nest two weekends in a row and both times found an Eagle laying low in the nest. I'm officially on egg watch now!

Felt lucky to spot this Northern Flicker

This beautiful Northern Flicker stopped by the neighborhood last weekend while I was watching the flock of Cedar Waxwings. I was happy I had my camera in hand!

Surprise visit by a flock of Cedar Waxwing

Something kept telling me to go look out my back window last Saturday. I was glad I listened because I spotted a single Cedar Waxwing in a tree. After standing there watching it for several minutes, I realized there was a small flock in the neighborhood. I spent the next hour watching them and loved every minute of it.

Manassas Eagles are getting frisky

I visited the Manassas Eagles nest last weekend and both were in the nest. I was only there two minutes when I was able to capture these photos of the pair mating. This is good sign since I'm hoping they lay eggs within the next month.
