Quail

My niece and I chased this Quail around until we both managed to get it's picture. It's fast and sneaky!

Blue Dasher Dragonfly

This photo was taken at the Atlanta Botanical Gardens last week. I believe it's a Blue Dasher Dragonfly. Someone correct me if I'm wrong.

Lost relatives

I visited my sister's antique store last week where I saw these old photos for sale. As a genealogist, this makes me crazy. Not that she's selling the photos. What makes me crazy is the fact that they made their way to her store in the first place. I can't tell you the excitement I feel when I find an old family photo. I love to put a face to the people I'm researching. Somebody out there is looking for these people ... it's just sad to me.

Bella and the fawn's Mama

This deer jumped into the yard yesterday. We're assuming it's the Mama to the fawn Bella found yesterday. Bella spotted the deer and the two of them had a stare down for five or so minutes. It was cute. Bella showed no fear.

Bella's fawn

My sister's Pomeranian, Bella, spotted this week old fawn during our afternoon stroll through the yard today. It was nestled against the fence and blended in very well. We could see Mama 100 yards away, keeping an eye on her baby.

Hummingbird watch

We've been visited by several Hummingbirds this week. Unfortunately, I can only get a picture through the screened porch. They don't come when I stand outside. I think I'll buy myself a Hummingbird feeder when I get back home.

No activity going on

The yard was full of birds, squirrels, bunnies, and chipmunks this morning so Mama and I spent an hour on the back porch. All of a sudden it got quiet and Mama commented that there was no activity going on. Two minutes later I spotted this Cooper's Hawk in the corner of the yard. I was only able to snap one picture before it flew away. You can see his breakfast, which he carried away, on the ground in front of him.

Need some eggs?

I'm in Atlanta visiting my family this week. Two days ago I noticed these chickens in the backyard of the house next door to Daddy's. He lives 10 minutes from downtown Atlanta so it caught my attention. My uncle lived there until he died two years ago. He'd probably enjoy them as he and my aunt used to raise cows before they moved to this house. More than likely, they had a few chickens hanging out with the cows.

New home

We sat on Mama's porch last night and watched this Bluebird fly between the three houses in her backyard. This morning, it appears that he's settled on this one. I'm happy because now I get to watch him during my visit this week.

Brown Thrasher

I spotted this bird in the confederate cemetery on Monday and believe it's a Brown Thrasher. Someone please correct me if I'm wrong.
