While in Colonial Williamsburg, we toured many of the merchants in the historical city. I found the milliner and tailor to be the most interesting. According to the milliner, everything in the store is handmade. This particular dress was made for Colonial Williamsburg's artist-in-residence program to be used in a scene in which Lady Dunmore (actor Mamie Gummer, Meryl Streep's daughter) is preparing to go to a ball at the Governor's Palace.
The next two dresses (plaid and pink) would have been appropriate for a woman to wear while shopping or visiting someone for tea.
