First Monarch Butterfly of the year

Some years I see them all summer. This year, I saw none until today.

Not seeing any butterflies this summer

Tiger Swallowtail on Thrift

Monarch welcomes us home

I've seen very few butterflies this year so was happy to see this Monarch in my Lantana after we returned from a trip to Atlanta

Sphinx moth

I saw this moth in the garage as I was leaving work today. I believe it's a Sphinx moth, although I have no clue of the particular type.

Monarch visits

Not seeing many butterflies this year but this Monarch butterfly visited the lantana over the weekend.

Gulf Fritillary

Still finding new butterflies. Found this one near the Atlanta airport.

Eastern Tiger Swallowtails at Monticello

Everywhere I looked I saw butterflies during our walk through the flower gardens at Monticello

American Lady

Another first time visitor. I'm doing something right this year. I believe I've labeled it correctly. Correct me if I'm wrong.

A two-fer today

The monarch came back which was nice.

This one had a LOT of damage.

Damaged

I've had three of this butterfly hanging out this past week. This one has had his share of troubles.

My first Monarch

Junonia coenia

Or rather the common Buckeye butterfly. I was busy trying to snap a photo of a bee when this butterfly stopped by.

Another visit by a Swallowtail

Spicebush Swallowtail

Word must have gotten out that I was complaining about the lack of butterfly this summer. I walked outside mid-day and saw this one on my Lantana, finally. I checked gardenswithwings.com and it looks like I incorrectly labeled the butterfly two posts ago. It's a Spicebush Swallowtail. This one is missing a piece of a wing.

Black Swallowtail

Since the butterfly aren't visiting my yard this summer, I'll post a photo of one I took last year. They liked the Zinnia a lot.

Eastern Tiger Swallowtail

I’m posting this photo from last summer as I need a reminder that all the work I did in the yard yesterday was worth it. I could hardly walk by the end of the day!

Summer visitor

My summer zinnia blooms attract many visitors to our yard. This one is a Variegated Fritillary (Euptoieta claudia).
