A two-fer today

The monarch came back which was nice.

This one had a LOT of damage.

What is this?

I talked about the Hummingbird Moth the other day. I'm having trouble loading a photo tonight so am trying a video for a change. I was fascinated by this bug.

I've had three of this butterfly hanging out this past week. This one has had his share of troubles.

I'm not a bee

It turns out the bee I was trying to shoot yesterday is actually a Hummingbird Moth. Learn something new every day. It did fly like a Hummingbird.

Junonia coenia

Or rather the common Buckeye butterfly. I was busy trying to snap a photo of a bee when this butterfly stopped by.

Little Gracie

I haven't thought about Bonaventure Cemetery in a while but it came up in conversation today. I've visited this historic cemetery located in Savannah, Georgia twice. The first grave that comes to mind when I think about Bonaventure is the grave site of Little Gracie.

Osprey on the Potomac

When we first saw this bird on our visit to Mount Vernon, we thought we had spotted an Eagle. We were later told it was an Osprey.

I'm a lefty born on the 13th

Today is both National Left-Hander’s Day and Friday the 13th.

Today is also my birthday and I’m left-handed … so it’s my special day!

Being left-handed in a right-handed world has its challenges: My first grade teacher tried to make me write with my right hand, so I wrote everything backwards. I deal cards backwards. I have to force myself to shake hands with my right hand. It took years for me to find a handheld can opener I could comfortably use. Making checkmarks felt awkward until I realized I could make them backwards. Three ring binders and spiral notebooks are clumsy to use. I preferred the cane poles I fished with as a child because I didn’t have to reel my fish in with my right hand. The keypad on my keyboard is on the right side. I’ve never enjoyed miniature golf because I couldn’t figure out how to hold the club. The pour spout on a ladle is usually upside down to me. But I’m not complaining.

And then there’s the dreaded number 13, linked to all things evil.

Well, I’ve always considered 13 to be my lucky number and I celebrate my left-handedness. So now I think I’ll go have myself a happy birthday!
