Falls colors and snow

We took a drive to The Plains yesterday to see the fall colors. This picture doesn't really show the colors that well but you get the picture.

There was still a little snow on the ground from Saturday's rare snow storm.

Frosted Lantana

I'm sad that we had our first frost last night. My Lantana were still in full bloom after all the rain and warm temps we'd been having.

The Junco are back

First visit of the year today. I know cold weather is coming when I see this bird. It's still October but we're getting a rain/sleet/snow mix today. You can see sleet on its tail in this picture.

Exotic bird #1

Unfortunately I don't know the real name of this bird so it will just have to be Exotic bird #1.

Waning gibbous moon, the planet Jupiter, and the Pleiades star cluster

It took me all evening to capture a photo of the Pleiades star cluster, but I finally got one. While it's not a great photo, you can see the Pleiades star cluster--also known as the Seven Sisters. The first photo was taken as the Moon was rising.

The second photo is of the Moon and Jupiter.

To see the Pleiades star cluster, you'll need to click on the third image to enlarge it. The cluster is to the lower left of the Moon.

Flash flood yesterday

Well maybe not a flood but it was the most water I've seen in my yard, ever. The skies opened up yesterday afternoon. I didn't make it home in time so got soaking wet as I ran from the car to the house. We had a temporary river that ran from our neighbors back yards into our yard, through the patio, then into the front yard, down the sidewalk, then over to the drain.

Monarch welcomes us home

I've seen very few butterflies this year so was happy to see this Monarch in my Lantana after we returned from a trip to Atlanta

Out of nowhere

This flower came up out of nowhere in between landscaping stones last week
